Courses and Lessons

Intensive Course:

• Duration: 3 months.

• Frequency: 1 Lesson per week
  (1 hour)

This course is oriented towards players that have a good amount of experience in different musical fields, that may have worked as session musicians, playing live, and have studied improvisation for several years and have been part of a jazz ensemble.

To start this course, you must have confidence in a high level of sight reading! In 3 months time, we will make sure you are familiar with all of the different requirements needed to be a solid cruise ship musician, and master them bit by bit. We will work on sight reading, using specific material that musicians usually play onboard to make sure your level is up to par. We will review the basic cruise ship repertoire, as well as improvisation, soloist and comping skills in different styles. We will work on your sound, what equipment is needed to achieve that sound, and other performance aspects. We will also address the specific function of a guitarist (or other instrument) in a showband, orchestra, big band, small combos, etc.

Intermediate Course:

• Duration: 6 months.

• Frequency: 1 Lesson per week
  (1 hour)

This course is oriented towards players that have experience as a session musician or playing live, having played in some sort of jazz combo or rock/pop band. It is not necessary to have studied improvisation, but it helps!

To start this course, you must have confidence in a good level of sight reading! Over 6 months, we will make sure you are familiar with all of the different requirements needed to be a solid cruise ship musician, and master them bit by bit. We will work on sight reading with specifically chosen materials, combining them with materials that are used on ships, to get your level to where it needs to be. We will review the basic cruise ship repertoire, learning specific songs, solos, introductions, etc. We will work on transcribed solos to better sight reading abilities, improvisation, and the performance of many different musical styles. We will learn about your sound, what equipment is needed to achieve that sound, and other performance aspects. We will also address the specific function of a guitarist (or other instrument) in a showband, orchestra, big band, small combos, etc.

Annual Course:

• Duration: 12 months.

• Frequency: 1 Lesson per week
  (1 hour)

This course is oriented towards players with only a small amount of experience in different fields, as a session musician, or playing live. Maybe you’ve studied a little improvisation, but haven’t been a part of a jazz ensemble.

To start this course, you must have at least a basic level of sight-reading.

In one year’s time, we will make sure you are familiar with all of the different requirements needed to be a solid cruise ship musician, and work on them bit by bit. For starters, we will of course work on different aspects of your playing. Sight reading is most important, so we’ll provide you with reading material to help that develop, combining books that we recommend with material that musicians usually play onboard. We will review basic cruise ship repertoire, learning specific songs, solos, introductions, etc. We will work on transcribed solos to better sight reading abilities, improvisation, and the performance of many different musical styles. We will learn about your sound, what equipment is needed to achieve that sound, and other performance aspects.
